Introduction
Mythology brings fantasy as close to reality through visual and verbal stories. These narratives allow us to follow characters in their experiences and feel their emotions, conflicts, and triumphs.
Baroque art goes against the standards and rules used during the Renaissance. Such as naturalistic and classical styles and realism. It was used to convey religious messages in paintings, sculptures, and architecture to increase religious devotion. As stated before, Baroque differs from the Renaissance art style. Klaus Carl states “It was occasionally seen as a variation and brutalization of the Renaissance style and sometimes conversely as a higher form of its development and remained dominant until approximately the middle of the eighteenth century.” With lighting, dramatic intent, and dynamic movement, the baroque artists conveyed those mythical characters and their experiences within their art.
Key Visuals
This thesis will focus on recreating a biblical scene in a 3D layout by using visual aesthetics from the Baroque era. The artist will use baroque aesthetics to convey the narrative of the War in Heaven with 3D character models of Michael and Satan in an environment by using a 3D program. Creating lighting in Autodesk Maya and sculpting and texturing in Zbrush and Substance Painter translate those aesthetics visually.
